EASTER: He Still Rolls Stones Away

Apr 5, 2026    Pastor Steve Powers

This powerful Easter message invites us into the transformative reality that resurrection power isn't just a historical event—it's a present-day experience available to each of us. At the heart of this teaching is the profound truth from Romans 8:11 that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead dwells in us. The stone wasn't rolled away for Jesus' sake—He is resurrection power incarnate—but for ours, so we could see into the empty tomb and understand that God has ultimate authority over death, hell, and the grave. The message challenges us to examine what we're carrying in our 'burden bags'—those heavy stones of unanswered prayers, delayed dreams, broken hearts, and disappointments that weigh us down. We're reminded of the heartbreaking phrase from Luke 24:21, 'we had hoped,' which captures the spiritual heartbreak of wounded expectations. But here's the beautiful reality: delay is not denial, silence is not absence, and buried does not mean finished. Too many of us are living stuck in Good Friday, feeling the weight of failure and silence, when we're called to live in Resurrection Sunday. This teaching offers two prophetic acts of freedom: first, laying our burdens at the foot of the cross where Jesus carries what we cannot; and second, removing the false labels of failure, shame, defeat, and 'not enough' that we've worn for too long. The cross plus sign adds peace, salvation, forgiveness, and grace to our lives. We're challenged to stop serving sentences Jesus already served, stop carrying chains He already broke, and stop wearing labels He already erased. This is our stone-rolling Sunday—the day we step out of the tomb of despair, fear, and doubt into resurrection life.
