Winning the battle of the A.N.T.S

May 10, 2026    Pastor Karyn Powers

This powerful message confronts us with a creative and unforgettable metaphor: ANTs, or Automatic Negative Thoughts, that infest our minds just as real ants invade a picnic. Drawing from the story of the twelve spies in Numbers 13, we're reminded how ten spies saw giants and felt like grasshoppers, while Joshua and Caleb saw God's promise and declared they were well able to possess the land. The difference wasn't in their circumstances but in their thinking. We learn that these automatic negative thoughts—the spontaneous, defeating beliefs about ourselves, others, and our future—can become mental strongholds that distort reality and steal our destiny. The sermon challenges us to recognize that our greatest battle isn't with external enemies but with the conversations happening in our own heads. Through 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, we're equipped with the weapons to cast down imaginations and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. The visual imagery of ants carrying burdens, leaving trails, and multiplying rapidly illustrates how one negative thought can quickly become a pattern that shapes our emotions, words, and ultimately our reality. This message offers practical antidotes: acknowledging truth, naming lies, inviting the Holy Spirit to shine light on the source of our fears, and establishing new thought patterns rooted in God's Word rather than our wounds.
